Algorithms are everywhere. They’re the unnoticed mechanisms that determine everything from the temperature in your office, to the content of your Facebook feed, to the information Google shows you in search results. But there’s one big problem: these algorithms are not actually passive or value-neutral. I spoke with feminist and software engineer Liz Rush about how algorithms, although invisible, function to reinforce and promote sexism and racism in our increasingly Internet influenced and informed society.
