I was recently in a discussion where one person quoted from a recent conference that as a UX designer you should always offer a "Back to desktop" route on a mobile website because users can't always get to what they want on a mobile. If this sounds a common problem to you then someone somewhere is doing their job wrong. Back to desktop should be used for when device detection has gone wrong, not because as a user you are missing content that you feel you need to see from one platform/device to another.
